Last spring I decided to go for big and make the biggest quilt I have ever made and enter it into a competition, the Alameda County Fair. The easy part was cutting and piecing the fabric. It was so much fun to layout the fabric and play with the design. After piecing the whole top, I decided it needed a little embellishment, I added a hand embroidered a hummingbird and flowers.
I thought this was going to be a fun and relaxing project. Although it was fun, it turned out to be more of a big teaching project. I learned more about quilting than any other project I have worked on. The importance of making sure the quilt is properly basted, slowing down when quilting, using proper marking tools and so much more.
