We have been getting a lot a much needed rain. With all this rain, I am finally inspired to used my April Showers Charm pack. I love this fabric. It is so bright and cheerful, while still being fun and whimsical. With the never ending winter, this will be an awesome cheery snuggle quilt on those cold days.
I love this quilt. Here it is in the beginning stages after I have completed most of the blocks. I took a standard four patch block and jazzed it up with a raw, frayed edge umbrella applique.
Then, I added white sashing and border to increase its size since I felt it was a little too small. Then I added a fun scrappy looking boarder with the same fabric I used for the blocks and applique to help tie it all in.
I went with a very simple hand and machine quilting. I hand quilted around each umbrella. This was the first time I tried hand quilting and I am so very happy with the results. To add a little more texture to the quilt, I machine quilted the outer white border. All the quilting was done with Guterrmann variegated Rainbow thread. A perfect touch to this quilt.
Here is my adorable little guy helping out with taking photos. I think he likes it.
Here is the final quilt!
I came up with the name for this quilt from one of my son’s favorite books, “When The Rain Falls.” It is a very sweet little board book about what happens when it rains and adorable children playing in the rain.
